November 2023 - It's the biggest news we have all been waiting for - Hope High School is opening in January 2023!! We are overjoyed to report this news. Admissions have now started, more news to come in due course!
June 2023 - https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2023/jun/22/kenya-to-launch-biggest-school-meals-programme-in-africa
So many children are going without lunch, stunting their growth and disrupting their ability to learn. We are proud to provide lunches for all kids at Hope Children's Centre. February 2023 - This is Brian, 17 years old, who has just finished High School after previously attending Hope Children's Centre. Brian is now going on to University to study to become a surgeon! We congratulate Brian and wish him the best of luck with his studies.
December 2022 - This is Faith, 19 years old, a former pupil of Hope Children's Centre. Faith came to us in 2010, from a very poor family. She excelled in school, and is now at University studying to be an Accountant. Due to her great work, she already has a job lined up when she finishes.
We are so grateful to everyone who donates to our school and allows children like Faith to have a future. If you are interested in helping, please get in touch. July 2022 - Today is the TENTH anniversary of Hope Children's Centre being granted an official license to operate as a Kenyan school. What a lot has happened in that time! Thank you to everyone who has donated to help us get this far!
January 2022 - The library is progressing well!
August 2021 - Some more great news! We have bought some new land and will soon be building a library for our soon to be open High School. More news to follow!
March 2021 - We wish to extend special thanks to one of our biggest and most long-standing donors, Zandent Limited in the UK. The company's founder Jos Vernon has made numerous invaluable contributions to our school over the last few years that have helped pay for teachers' wages, food for the children and building maintenance possible. Thank you again to Zandent for all the help you have given us!
January 2021 - A new year brings new hope. We are very happy to say that learning has resumed, as has construction of the new school. Thank you to all staff and pupils for their patience during this difficult time.
July 2020 - Hope Children's Centre has devised and implemented a Home Learning plan for our pupils due to the continuing closure of schools in Kenya. We want to make sure the education of our pupils suffers as little as possible. Thank you to Emily Oroni and the staff, and all donors helping us to get through this.
Apr 2020 - The Coronavirus is going to have an economic impact in Developing countries that will dwarf the physical toll of the virus. Lockdowns, curfews and virus-related trade obstacles will need to many unable to find work to feed families.
With the help of some generous donations, Hope Children's Centre is proud to assist in distributing food and soap to families in the most dire need. We will continue to do this for as long as we can to get through this crisis together. Thanks to all who have helped us. |
Oct 2019 - Great work from the students of Hope Children's Centre to help keep their neighbourhood clean and tidy! Thank you also to the local council for coming to educate the children on the importance of keeping the local area free from litter and from dangerous materials.
Jun 2019 - Just a quick and positive update; construction on the lab is about to start!
Mar 2019 - Here I am again, back at Hope Children's Centre! Work is underway on completing the floors in the new school, however we are experiencing a delay as we are having trouble finding someone to install a science lab. Hopefully we can get this resolved soon and get the new school open!

Nov 2018 - I am glad to announce that building work on the new school is almost done - the structure is complete, the roof is done, and our great team of local builders are adding doors and windows as we speak. Please get in touch if you wish to assist with kitting out the school - before we can open, we of course need chairs, tables, blackboards etc. Thank you to all who have helped so far!
Jan 2018 - We are expanding! After months of negotiation, I am happy to say that we have purchased some land in order to build a Hope Children's Centre secondary school. Secondary education in Kenya is relatively expensive, and this will enable us to allow our students to continue their education instead of dropping out. More news to follow!
Oct 2017 - Our standard eight students, who passed their national exams! Here they are with their staff. Congratulations to all of them!
May 2017 - Thanks to everyone who came to www.domainingeurope.com and donated to our school! The money will go towards future projects, including (hopefully) the building of a secondary school. Thank you to all!
April 2016 - More great news from Hope Children's Centre! I am happy to announce that we now have fully operational running water in the school building. As well as the obvious benefits for cooking, cleaning and hygiene, this will save us a substantial amount of money thanks to no longer having to buy in water. Thanks again to all who contributed!
November 2015 - Our new dining room is ready! We now have a separate dining room where the kids can enjoy their lunch together. Thanks to all who helped make this happen!
July 2015 - News for all Donors - Hope Children's Centre e.V is now entered into the German 'Handelsregister' or German Trade Register. This is a list affiliated with the German government where companies can be listed only after obtaining approval from the Court. - https://www.handelsregister.de/rp_web/welcome.do

November 2013 - We are very proud that the Standard Eight class of Hope Children's Centre are about to sit the KCP Exams, to determine if they can go on to further education. They are the first group from our school to do so - this is a very proud moment for all of us and we wish them the very best of luck!
April 2013 - After my last visit to Mombasa two weeks ago, it was great to see the progress that has been made. Thanks to donations made by friends and family and also a former volunteer, Henny Gorton, we were able to buy all the remaining desks and blackboards that were needed for the school. A big thank you to everyone who donated!
It was also great to meet our three newest members of staff - Thum, Stellah and Silas. They are doing an excellent job and making a vital contribution to the childrens' education!

It's Official!!
July 2012 - Hope Children's Centre is officially recognised by the Kenyan government! After a long struggle, hard work and much investment, we now have an official license. This means that the kids at the school can sit all official Kenyan exams, and come away with the qualifications they would otherwise never have a chance of getting.
THANK YOU AGAIN TO EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED US GET THIS FAR!

March 2012 - just back from another trip to Mombasa! The building has come a long way and is now looking much more like a school should! We had an opening party for the school, and the kids had a wonderful time!
TEACHERS URGENTLY NEEDED - However, we currently have an urgent situation. In order to officially register the school (a legal requirement in Kenya), we urgently need to find three qualified teachers to work there. Finding them should not be too difficult, the problem is paying them.
Therefore, anyone who is interested in contributing a small monthly sponsorship of around €10 per month towards paying the teachers wages, please get in touch. This could be the difference between the school staying in business and not, so any help would be fantastic.
All the best, Shaun and Emily.
